Cooking Vacation in Greece - Kalamata

Left to right: beaches in Stoupa and Kardamyli, view from B&B

Hello,
How about vacationing with Taste of Italy in Greece? We will be in Agios Nikolaos, 39 km south of Kalamata, on the beautiful Southern Peloponnese coast. Here you will be surrounded by a natural environment of mountains, sea and blue skies in which to relax and unwind. You can be as active as you want; you can hike in the Taygetos mountains, mountain-bike, swim or walk. You can also relax the way you prefer; practice yoga, read, write, take siestas or sit in a harbor-side tavern and watch the world go by.

You can also cook several afternoons with me. A hallmark of my cooking lessons is fairly easy-to-prepare dishes that both taste and look good! This tradition will continue this coming August where we will prepare dishes that have made Italy’s Puglia and Sicily regions world-famous. On another afternoon we will prepare Greek specialties.

This vacation includes 7 nights at a small B&B, great breakfasts every morning and 3 4 course dinners in a terraced area overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Cooking lessons are optional.

You’ll find all the details regarding the cooking vacation below. Space is limited so book early to ensure your place. Please feel free to write me with any questions or comments.

I hope you will join my family and me in Greece this coming August.
Best regards, Maribel

DETAILED INFORMATION

When: arrive on Saturday August 20th and depart on August 27th, 2011.

The cooking lessons
There will be 3 cooking lessons: 1 lesson on Sicily (Italy), 1 on Puglia (Italy) and 1 on Greece, all famous for their tasty and healthy Mediterranean cooking. We will be using fresh local vegetables, fruit and seafood to prepare seasonal dishes. We will eat our meals outdoors in a shaded area overlooking the Mediterranean sea and sunsets.

Each lesson will be followed by a dinner which includes local wine (½ bottle of wine per adult), water and a 4 course meal, (an all-vegetable alternative is available upon request). No one will leave the dinner table hungry!

Children under 11 pay only half price for dinner and will have their favorite beverages to enjoy with their meals.

Location
Agios Nikolaos is a fishing village located 30km south-east of Kalamata, in the “Mani” Peninsula on the Southern Peloponnese coast of Greece.

To get to Agios Nikolaos, you can fly to Kalamata from Athens and we can arrange for pick up at the airport. Direct flights to Kalamata are available from Germany and the UK. You can also take the ferry from Ancona (Italy) to Patrasso and drive down to Agios Nikolaos.

We highly recommended you arrange a method of transportation once here as the closest beaches and downtown area are 3 km (1.9 miles) away. The distance from the beach guarantees you peace and quiet during your stay at the B&B despite the noisy crowds at the beaches and downtown area. We will be happy to assist you whether you wish to rent a car, scooter or mountain-bike; these are all rentable for a reasonable fee in downtown Agios Nikolaos.

The B&B is located right outside the town of Agios Nikolaos, just 3km from the seaside. It is brand-new and is built in the traditional Greek stone style; each one of its 3 rooms has a view of the Mediterranean sea and sunset from their private terrace. Each room, about 20 square meters, can accommodate up to 4 persons: 2 on a large bed and 2 more on a pull-out sleep sofa.

Prices per person include a 7 night stay, breakfast every morning, 3 four course dinners. The 3 cooking lessons are optional. Prices range from 575€ for an single adult in one room to 200€ for a child under 11, depending on the number of people in each room and whether they plan to cook or just eat!
